WE ARE A BROOKLYN-BASED NONPROFIT DEDICATED TO BUILDING STRONG, CONFIDENT READERS.

Our mission is to close the literacy gap in Brooklyn and to help ensure educational access and equity for all Brooklyn children. Our immediate goal for our program is for all of our participants to be reading at or above grade level; our ultimate goal is to make a substantial impact on our participants’ lifelong education and life outcomes by strengthening their fundamental reading skills.

OUR PROGRAMS

READ 718 After School

Our READ 718 After School program is READ 718’s core remediation program and is designed for children in grades 3-8 who are reading below grade level.

READ 718 Remote

READ 718 Remote was born out of necessity during the pandemic, but it has proven to be successful in providing children in grades 3-8 the same instruction as our core After School program, but on Zoom.

Saturday READing Room

The READing Room takes place on 8 Saturdays per cycle (fall, winter, spring) and is open to 1st and 2nd graders who need reading support.

Summer READing Room, Rising READers, Book Club, and Writing Workshop!

READ 718’s Summer READing Room is a 6-week program from July 8-August 15 that offers students entering grades 3-8 the opportunity to practice fundamental reading skills, promote engagement in reading, and prevent “summer slide.” Rising READers is offered to rising 3rd grader who have trouble decoding words and need systematic, sequential phonics instruction, Book Club is for rising 5th and 6th graders, and Writing Workshop is for rising 6th-9th graders.

READ Up

READ Up is offered to our current READers who have difficulty decoding words and will benefit from systematic, sequential phonics instruction.

Workshops

READ 718 regularly offers educational workshops for families, our volunteers, and other community members. All are welcome! These workshops are led by experts in education and cover a range of topics.
